As another year draws to a close we would like to take this now customary opportunity to thank you all for your support throughout 2018. While it hasn’t been a particularly prolific year for the label we have still managed to release six excellent records, launch the inaugural Gizehfest and see our artists do a tremendous amount of touring across the last twelve months.
As everyone knows, the musical landscape we exist in is a tumultuous one - for us as a label and for our bands trying to further their art and craft. Simply raising awareness and letting people know what we are all up to is becoming a real challenge. Be it social media algorithms blocking posts or just the sheer amount of music being released - making it harder to get reviews, interviews, features and such like. That’s why our newsletter is crucial to us and why we try and use it in a regular fashion, attempting frequency without becoming too damn annoying. We hope the pre-orders, discounts and heads-up you receive by being part of it are enough to keep you clicking open when it arrives in your inbox.
Word-of-mouth is also, of course, very important to endeavours such as ours so please continue to spread the music we release as far and wide as you can. A share or a retweet or bringing a friend to a show - it truly makes a difference. This year we have trialled our bandcamp page as a pay-what-you-want system which seems to have worked quite well and it’s something we aim to continue. Our traditional Winter Sale is now on and will run until the end of the month so please make use of the generous offers… fill some holes in your collection, try out something new or grab a record for a friend. We are shipping orders right the way up to Christmas.
And so we look to 2019. We already have our first batch of releases in place and we’ll bring news on those as soon as we can. It’s looking like another exciting year - working with some new artists and some old label faithfuls. Gizehfest is expanding to two editions as we take the show to Belgium for the first time in February, alongside our Manchester night in March. There are plenty of tours in the works alongside other schemes and plans as usual.
We also live in hope that our country doesn’t pull up the drawbridge on our tiny island. Our connection to Europe is a deep one. So many years of touring, long friendships and warm welcomes across so many countries and a common musical bond. Over 50% of our orders are shipped to Europe. Our vinyl is produced in the Czech Republic, our CD’s in Poland, our distributor for the world is based in Germany. We truly hope these relationships can withstand the current insanity and that we are able to build more bridges and more friendships in the years to come.
Here’s to another goddamn New Year and thanks again for your support.
